Hailee Steinfeld Half Written Story, is her second and latest EP. It was released on May 8, 2020, and contains five new songs. Here, she opens to the world on a very personal record after a breakup.
Music is something Hailee has been working on for a few years. Her first major singing gig was on “Pitch Perfect 2” (2015) when she joined the Barden Bellas. One year later, she released her first EP called “Haiz” (2016). The songs “Love Myself” and “Rock Bottom” proved her determination.
“Half Written Story” has zero features and thus, Steinfeld keeps it intimate. Starting with the track “I Love You’s,” the singer displays she has gone through a relationship and is here to talk about it. This theme pops up throughout the rest of the EP. A spoiler, if you will.
Furthermore, “End this (L.O.V.E.)” proves how evil love can be (get it?). Up next, “Man Up” does not feel like the typical pop song. Indeed, she demonstrates she can also keep up with a faster beat and doesn’t lay vocals solely on slow ballads. Finally, “Wrong Direction” shows she is still in a healing process and there is more than meets the eye.
Personal records such as this one seem to be connecting with fans. After all, the EP has received solid reviews. Lastly, balancing an acting and singing career can be difficult to pull off. But she has done it!
Luckily for fans, “Half Written Story” can be considered an appetizer for Hailee’s long-awaited LP. A full-length project is rumored to arrive this summer. Further details are scarce, but I will keep you posted.
